This Week’s News

As we head into the final stretch of sixth grade, students will engage in many special end-of-the-year activities while continuing their academic work after camp. There is much to do!

The teachers and students are busily planning the promotion ceremony itself, and the students have selected the decorating theme for this year. The theme is the Wizard of Oz. The slogan is “Success accompanies our journey along the Yellow Brick Road of life.” The decorating colors are purple and gold.

Here are some important upcoming dates:

Monday, May 8 – Friday, May 26, has been designated as the sixth grade testing window for SBAC (Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium) testing. The testing will begin first thing in the morning and continue till lunchtime each of those days.  It is possible that testing may extend to the following week.

Friday, May 12, is a minimum day for staff appreciation. Students will be dismissed at 11:50 a.m.

Tuesday, May 16, is Eastside Relays from 9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. The students will ride a bus to Casa Grande, but students must either be picked up at Casa or given written permission to walk home from there.

Wednesday, May 24, is Old Adobe’s Open House and pasta dinner. The pasta dinner will run from 5:00 p.m. to 7:15 p.m., and classrooms will be open from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.

Friday, May 26, is a minimum day for volunteer appreciation. Students will be dismissed at 11:50 a.m.

Monday, May 29, is a holiday in celebration of Memorial Day

Tuesday, May 30, is the district-wide pool party from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at the Petaluma Swim Center.  Each student should bring a lunch.  A morning snack and bus transportation will be provided.

Wednesday, May 31, is promotion. The ceremony will be from 10:00 a.m. – 11:15 a.m. with a short reception following the ceremony. Students should dress up a bit for this event.

Thursday, June 1, is a regular school day, and sixth graders are expected to be in class.

Friday, June 2, is field day. It is also the last day of school for the year, and the student dismissal time is 11:50 a.m. Each sixth grade class will need three parent volunteers to help with Field Day.
