This Week’s Feature:

Spelling Pattern: be-, de-
Many words begin with the prefixes be- and de-.  Both of these prefixes have numerous meanings.  Watch for these prefixes when you are reading and writing.

This Week’s Special Spelling Practice Activity:


You can use the Self-Testing strategy at home and at school to study spelling words.  There are four steps to this strategy:

  1. Look at each word on your spelling list.
  2. Cover the first word.
  3. Write the first word on a piece of scrap paper.
  4. After all the words have been written, check the spelling of each word.  Write the correct spelling next to any misspelled word.

After completing this activity, make a list of words you spelled correctly the first time and a list of words that you need to continue to practice spelling.  Turn this list in to Ms. M., along with your weekly word sort and spelling story.
