Week of January 23
This Week’s Feature:
Spelling Pattern: Latin Word Root: tract
Many words can be formed by adding different prefixes and suffixes to a single root. The spelling of these words is related to the meaning of the root. The root tract comes from the Latin trahere, meaning to draw or to pull. Watch for words derived from this Latin root when you are reading and writing.
This Week’s Special Spelling Practice Activity:
Each of the words on this week’s core spelling list has the root word tract. Each word also has at least one other part. Create a word web like the one below or use the one provided on the next page. If a word does not fit, put it in the bubble with the question mark. Circle the letters of the root in each word. You will turn this word web in to Ms. M., along with your weekly word sort and spelling story. Do not forget to study your words for Friday’s spelling test.
